Last Minute Costume Inspiration: The Original King of Bling

If you're like my friend Ronni, you've had your Halloween costume planned since this time last year. If you're like me, you still don't know how you'll dress. For those of you rifling through boxes in closets trying to scare up an eleventh hour costume, I'd like to offer some inspiration.

When my Mother was in town last month, we went to the Liberace Museum, which was way cooler than I expected. With two buildings of his wardrobe, cars and pianos on display, there's lots of eye-candy to get the creative juices flowing. You'd be the hit of any party if you showed up dressed like The Original King of Bling. A last-minute recreation of any of these glamorous cloaks is totally doable, provided you have on hand at least two of the following things:

Mink Toga
Ostrich Feather Boa
Monkey Fur Cape
Bedazzled Underpants
World's Largest Rhinestone
Disco Mirrored Rolls Royce
Staples and Glue Gun

Hmmm... Let's take a closer look.

Imagine yourself in this showstopper! If you're fresh out of ostrich feathers, this can be easily whipped together with a handful of feather dusters and some crepe paper.

This little number is a little more complicated...

You might have a bolt of monkey fur on hand, but the upside-down variety is much harder to come by.

Here's an easy project you can recreate with mesh bath loofahs and old Mardi Gras beads.

Or this one from last year's leftover Christmas paper and pet hair, provided your cat will let you shave it.

But there's just no substitute for proper accessories for these costumes. You're S.O.L. if you don't have a rhinestone the size of your fist. This one happens to be the largest in the world. To pull this off, you'll at least need to have the second or third.

Now all you need is a disco ball to deconstruct and glue to your Rolls. Because if you don't have a ride like this, there's no sense going to the party in a Liberace inspired costume at all.

Whatever you decide to wear tonight, I wish you a happy Halloween.
